William Engelen Falten
[two_third_last padding=”0 0px 0 10px”]The object score series Falten (“Folds”) by William Engelen presents folded note paper on music stands. To begin the work, the Berliner artist folds a piece of paper into a three-dimensional form and then draws musical staves and short notes on it. Every centimeter of the sheet corresponds to one second in a note bar. The area that disappears behind the folds remains white. The wrinkled surface area and the black lines form a rhythmic dynamic structure resembling a musical composition. With its complex angular surfaces atop the long thin music stands, the object intervenes actively in the room. Instead of the coded language of written notes, Engelen chooses in his work a corporeal three-dimensional expression to describe sounds.[/two_third_last]
